With the arrival of anime in popular culture, many series and games from Japan have been transferred to North America. Games based on series like naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleachand others have had their games officially licensed and distributed to locations outside of Japan for English-speaking fans to enjoy.
Playstation 3 had a lot of great anime games made for it and a good number of them were released all over the world. Unfortunately, some games have not received the same treatment and are currently exclusive to Japan.
10/10 .Hack//Versus
The .To hack The franchise is made up of several RPG games, anime series, novels and manga. The franchise is set in an alternate reality where a popular MMORPG called The World is behind a series of mysterious events that have put several players into a coma. Several games and anime series have been officially translated and licensed for Western fans, but not .hack//Versus.
It’s the first fighting game in the series, and it was released in a “hybrid” bundle with the Blu-ray version of the .hack//The Movie, which was also not released outside of Japan. Several of the main characters of .To hack are available as playable characters, including Kite, Sora, and Black Rose.
9/10 Rozen Maiden: Wechseln Sie Welt Ab
Maiden of Rozen is an anime series that follows Jun, a middle school hikikomori who becomes the master of a sentient porcelain doll named Shinku. Meeting Shinku forever changes Jun’s life as he is drawn into an “Alice Games” competition where Shinku and six other sentient dolls compete to become the “perfect doll”.
Three official games are made for the series, two on Playstation 2 and the most recent on PS3. Rozen Maiden: Wechseln Sie Welt ab is a visual novel/adventure game where players follow Jun through the events of the series.
8/10 Nura: Rise Of the Yokai Clan – The Great War of a Gathered Hundred Demons
Nurarihyon no Mago Where, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan is a series about a high school student named Rikuo. Although he looks human, he is one of the yokai and is the grandson of the leader of all yokai. His grandfather wants him to inherit his title but Rikuo struggles to accept his yokai blood.
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – The Great War of the Hundred Demons Gathered is a fighting game released on PS3 and Xbox360. It features most of the characters from the series. There are several playable main characters and then support characters that all have different abilities that players can use to strengthen their team.
7/10 The Reminiscences of Haruhi Suzumiya
The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is about a high school student named Kyon who is forced to start a club with an eccentric girl named Haruhi who unknowingly has reality warping powers that are used to create a new world that would destroy their current world.
Along with the other members of the club, including a time traveler, an esper, and an alien, Kyon must keep life interesting for Haruhi and keep her from discovering her abilities. There are several games for the series, all but one released in Japan. In 2008 an adventure/visual novel game was released called The Reminiscences of Haruhi Suzumiya which is a link with the film, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.
6/10 Gundam: next combat operation
For fans of giant combat robots, the Mobile Suit Gundam The series is one of the best anime Mecha series. There are a lot of different series in the franchise, and each new one adds more lore and more mechs to the series. The popularity of Mobile Suit Gundam led to the official licensing and distribution of a few games in the West, but sadly one of the best Gundam the games were only available in Japan.
Gundam: next combat operation was a free team action game. As successor to Mobile Suit Gundam Combat Operation, it was more action-oriented and fast-paced. It also included mobile suits from many other Gundam timelines, allowing players to play Dream Battles to see which of the timelines Gundam was the best.
5/10 Live Date A: Rinne Utopia
For fans of science fiction, visual novels and cute anime girls, live date is a good series to get started. An ordinary high school student becomes the world’s only hope against strange entities known as spirits that are wreaking havoc across the globe. Besides killing these spirits, the only way to stop them is to… date them.
Getting a Spirit to fall in love is the only way to seal their powers. The first one live date game that was released was Date A Live Rinne Utopia. It features an original character and occurs after the events of the 4th light novel. It sold the most physical copies of the others live date games to date.
4/10 Dengeki Bunko: Fighting the Climax Ignition
Dengeki Bunko: Battle Climax is an anime fighter from French Bread, who has also developed other fighting game series like Under the night at childbirth and Melted blood. It features characters from different series which are released under the trade name Dengeki Bunko.
It features characters like Asuna and Kirito from Sword Art OnlineShizuo for Durarara!! and Emi of The devil is part-time!Dengeki Bunko: Battle Climax is available in North America, but not the updated version of the game. Dengeki Bunko: Fighting the Climax Ignition introduces several new characters and offers new game mechanics.
3/10 Hajime No Ippo
Hajime no Ippo: the fights is a boxing series that follows high school student Ippo, who is very shy and becomes a target for bullies. After being saved by a professional boxer, Ippo is inspired to enter the world of boxing. The series has several games, only a few of which were released in North America.
The only PS3 game in the series, Hajime No Ippo, was released for its 25th anniversary and only in Japan. It is a third person fighting game where players can play through their favorite matches from the series and discover new ones.
2/10 NAS of the liberation girl
Maiden of Liberation is a shooting game for the Nintendo 3DS. It was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and was well received in Japan, but not in North America. NAS of the liberation girl is a sequel to this game and was released for both PS3 and Vita, but only in Japan.
NAS of the liberation girl shifts to visual novel gameplay and follows Kiyoto Kaido, the childhood friend of Shoko Ozora, the main character of Maiden of Liberation who becomes president of New Japan after the assassination of her father.
1/10 Goku Hime: Senkou no Taika Akatsuki no Haryuu
games based on The Romance of the Three Kingdomsthe majority of them were made by Koei Temco and became a series of turn-based tactical RPGs that eventually created popular spinoffs like Dynasty Warriors.
Goku Hime: Senkou no Taika Akatsuki no Haryuu is a Romance of the Three Kingdoms anime simulation game developed by SystemSoft Alpha. Players must strategize and make the right choices to survive and help unite the continent.
