Toonami Announces 3 Anime Series, Including 2 New FLCL Seasons


To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Toonami is set to bring back FLCLwith Adult Swim announcing that it has ordered two new seasons of the anime alongside an all-new anime series.

FLCL: Grunge will be directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo (Apple XIII) and produced by MontBlanc Pictures, with FLCL: Shoegaze directed by Yukata Uemura (Alternative FLCL) and co-produced by Production IG (ghost in the shell, Psycho Pass) and Studio NUT (Alternative FLCL, Decadence). Both series are slated to premiere in 2023, according to Toonami creative director Jason DeMarco.

Along with the news, Adult Swim also released a brief preview of FLCL: Grungewith a different style of animation than in the past FLCL iterations, but retaining the original anime’s iconic theme song “Ride on Shooting Star” by The Pillows.

Elsewhere, Adult Swim also announced a new animated series, Housing Complex Cwhich will be directed by Yuji Nara with an original script and concept by amphibian. Housing Complex C will tell the story of Kimi, who lives in a small, low-cost housing complex located in the seaside town of Kurosaki. However, “horrible incidents are starting to happen” at the resort.
